Kevin Tibbs – The Unknown Factor

Coastal fans are no strangers to Kevin ” Mister” Tibbs.  He came in like gangbusters in 2012, winning the inaugural “Tommy Cairo’s YOUNG LIONS” tournament, going through seven other opponents to take the prestigious award for up and coming wrestling talent.

As a result, Tibbs was guaranteed a match for the Coastal Iron Man Championship (named in homage to Coastal founder “Iron Man” Tommy Cairo) and went on to not only face Ricky Reyes, but defeat him for the belt on August 4th.

Then Tibbs got hurt, and was unable to defend the title in October, and Cairo made the choice to strip Tibbs of the title, and have former champion Reyes, face the #2 contender “The Coqui Kid” Sebastian Cruz.  Reyes won in a hard fought match, and Tibbs appeared to be the odd man out.

That is, until recently.

Tibbs has been rehabbing, though it’s unsure whether he will actually be allowed to participate in the 4 man match to decided the number one contender for the Iron Man Belt on March 9th.  Several problems exist, at least in his mind.  First, he needs medical clearance to be able to participate, and there is no guarantee of that.  Second, Tibbs doesn’t want to be in a tournament to compete for a title he never lost.

“It was ridiculous to strip me of the title in October, and it’s even crazier to have me compete with three other clowns for a shot at MY OWN title”.  Current Coastal Commissioner Phil Varlese feels Tibbs’ pain, but says that what happened in the past stays in the past, and that Tibbs will have to prove himself once again.  “IF he’s as good as I’ve seen him, then a little match with 3 other guys shouldn’t get in his way”, Varlese was quoted as saying.

There’s at least one other competitor in the four way that doesn’t want Tibbs around.  Josh Adams has referred to Tibbs as “that midget looking Jesus” on more than one occasion, and says he will personally be sure to knock him out of the match if he decides to compete.  With that said, perhaps both Braydon Knight and Jael Rose will have an opinion as well.  Tickets for this show on March 9th are now on sale at the Rollway Skating Rink in Hammonton, NJ and also at BrownPaperTickets.com.
